BUY A VALLEY PASS OR NOT?

In Hakuba there are 2 types of lift passes: 1 . Multiday/multi-resort Hakuba Valley lift pass. 2 . A lift pass exclusively for the resort you are at. Cost wise it is substantially cheaper to NOT use the Valley pass and just buy a day pass for whichever resort you happen to be at on the day, or even better purchase online to get a discount. However most people prefer to get the Hakuba Valley lift pass as you can put it in your pocket and forget about it- no need to go and get a new ticket every day. The Valley shuttle buses are free for Valley Pass holders, but there are many non Valley buses that are free for everyone. It is worth noting you can buy the Valley Pass at the ticket window at the ski resorts so it is not necessary to buy in advance.

PURCHASING DISCOUNT SINGLE RESORT LIFT PASSES ONLINE • The following are links for the direct online discount purchase page for each resort. • Some are only in Japanese so you may need to use google translate or equivalent. • After paying you will receive a purchase confirmation containing a QR code. There are ticket machines at the bottom of the ski resorts which you scan the code into to get your actual lift pass. Often a 500 refundable deposit will be required. • Not all lift passes are discounted (notable exception is Happo).

Hakuba Season Pass Guide

If you are staying the ski season then you will probably want to get a season pass- these are your choices. • Hakuba Valley Season Pass ; does all 10 resorts in Hakuba on a single ticket for ¥ 184,000, but an earlybird pass (available July 15- August 28 is only ¥126,500 • Happo Season Pass. Goes for ¥ 94,000 if you are 40 yrs or over, but only ¥48,000 yen if you are between 18 and 39 yrs (work that one out!). It is a little bit cheaper if you purchase it online by the 31 st October. • Hakuba 47/Goryu Combined Season Pass : ¥ 75,000 yen but purchase before October 30 th and it will be ¥ 58,000. • Tsugaike season pass. Get in between Oct 1 st and Nov 30 th to get a season pass for just ¥ 51,000, after that it will be ¥ 75,000. • Iwatake season pass. Just ¥ 47,800 if you get in by 6 th December . After that it will be ¥ 75,000.

Hakuba Valley pass or buy individual resort pass? Cost wise it is substantially cheaper to NOT use the Valley pass and just buy a day pass for whichever resort you happen to be at on the day, or even better purchase online to get a discount. Especially if you are going to the same resort for the whole time, then it is cheaper to not get the HV pass. Otherwise the Valley pass is better for the reasons below:
